What is the Tyrone Gayle Casino Scholars Program?

The Tyrone Gayle Baccarat Scholarship Program was created in memory of Tyrone Gayle.

This award-winning poker player was a pioneer who helped spur the growth of the online gambling industry. His legacy lives on through this scholarship program, which helps two young people from the gaming community each year.

Tyrone was a native of Texas who moved to Las Vegas as a teenager and began playing poker professionally at age 17. He went on to win more than $1 million in prize money in tournaments, including several high roller events at Bellagio Las Vegas, Aria Resort and Casino, MGM Grand Las Vegas and Wynn Las Vegas. In 2014, he became the youngest person ever inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame at just 24 years old.

A few months after his 25th birthday, Tyrone passed away unexpectedly in his sleep from an undetected heart condition called cardiomyopathy (Dilated Cardiomyopathy). Tyrone’s family wanted to honor his legacy by creating something that would help others pursue their dreams through poker in his honor. So they created a scholarship program that awards two young people each year with funds to play baccarat at any casino they choose!

Why does this matter?

In addition to the monetary deposit, each scholar will receive training in gambling etiquette, tournament strategy and mental game development. Tyrone’s family hopes that these skills will help scholars develop their own personal gambling careers, while also inspiring others to pursue their dreams.
